Meet our Support Teams

The Library Telescope Program is supported by volunteers from across the globe.

Our Support Teams

Each library outlet featured on our worldwide map of participating libraries includes a supporting amateur astronomy club, provided this information is given during registration. Volunteers from many of these clubs have joined a Library Telescope Program working group, which meets monthly to expand the program and share best practices. While not all supporting clubs are registered in our working group, the roster remains impressive. If your club is interested in joining, please contact us.

1) Operations Support

The growth of the Library Telescope Program will require recruitment of people to handle daily operational tasks.  Most often, we can recruit unpaid volunteers to handle our operational needs.  But paid positions may be required in the future.

Today, we are pleased to recognize Tom Lynch as our dedicated Facebook Page Manager.  Tom's work as an unpaid volunteer has been instrumental in raising global awareness of the Library Telescope Program and has played a crucial role in registering libraries on our world map.

Tom is a retired accountant who has spent most of his life reading about astronomy and looking up as a hobby. From his first discovery of the NASA Gemini Program in the mid 1960s thru to the current day, Tom has loved astronomy and the space programs. A bad experience with a very shaky telescope in his youth kept him from using telescopes until his 40s. Although he is very satisfied with his life experiences, if he had a Library Telescope in his youth his life might have been very different.

2) Library Telescope Program Task Force

A growing number of organizations across the world are represented on the Library Telescope Task Force.  Organizations often have multiple representatives.  Our task force welcomes astronomy clubs, librarians, and any organization that shares our passion for growing and supporting the library telescope program.  If your organization is interested in participating in one of our meetings, please Contact us.

Task Force Meetings

Library Telescope Task Force Meetings are hosted by ZOOM on the second Tuesday of each month. Attendees are typically representatives of organizations involved in the library telescope program. The purpose of the meetings is to share best practices and grow the library telescope program internationally.  Meetings start at 10:30 am Eastern Time (UTC -5 hours) and are held by ZOOM.  

2024 meeting schedule (no meeting in April): 1/9, 2/13, 3/12, 5/14, 6/11, 7/9, 8/13, 9/10, 10/9, 11/12, 12/10
