Launch Library Telescope Program

Launching a Library Telescope Program has never been easier!

Guideline #7 - Keeping Your Program Healthy

Keeping your program healthy involves several key practices:

  • Check-in and Check-out Procedures: Ensure that your library has clear, consistent procedures for checking in and out the telescopes to track their use and condition effectively.

  • Staff Training: Regularly train your staff to handle the telescopes, answer patron questions, and address any issues that arise.

  • Regular “Star Party” Events and Promotion: Hosting at least star party events each year can help keep your program healthy.  In-library signage and use of social media can keep your program visible and attract new users.

  • Regular Telescope Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance checks and repairs to keep the telescopes in good working order and extend their lifespan.

Our Goal

The Library Telescope Program fosters scientific literacy, stimulates interest in astronomy, and offers the awe and excitement of exploring the night sky to those who may have never looked through a telescope.
